March 14th 2008, Singapore – At the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Aerospace & Defense Awards ceremony held in Singapore on 14 March 2008, Singapore Changi Airport was presented the ‘Airport of the Year’ award. According to the organiser, Changi  Airport is chosen, from among airports in the Asia Pacific region which handle over15 million passengers annually, for ‘demonstrating world class efforts in meeting the demands of all its end users; i.e. from airlines, passengers, cargo carriers to commercial non-travelling visitors.’

Mr Lim Kim Choon, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), credited this award to airport staff’s efforts. He expressed, “This award is an affirmation of the teamwork and dedication put in by all airport staff – the prime movers behind Changi Airport’s success. It is also a testament to the success of various CAAS’ policies and initiatives that help to maintain Changi Airport’s status as one of the best airports in the world.” He added, “I’m doubly happy and proud that CAAS’ subsidiary, Changi Airports International (CAI), has also gained international recognition as the winner of the ‘Airport  Investment Company of the Year’ award this evening.”

This latest award is the fifth accolade received by Changi Airport so far for the year 2008. Two of these awards were based on readers’ polls conducted by UK-based travel trade publications – Buying Business Travel magazine presented Changi the ‘Best Worldwide Airport’ award for the third  time, while Wanderlust magazine crowned Changi the ‘Top WorldwideAirport ’ for the sixth consecutive time.

And last month, at the 3rd Annual Readers Choice Awards organisedby DestinAsian magazine, Changi topped the readers’ poll as ‘ Best Airport in Asia Pacific’ for the third consecutive year. Shortly after, CAAS wonrecognition as the ‘Airport Authority with the Most Supportive Approachto Travel Retail’ for the third year running at the Raven Fox Global Travel Retail Award organised by Duty Free News International & Travel Retailer International.
